Mother and baby yoga

Testimonials

Bump Birth and Babies

"I would say the yoga definitely helped me to make sense of the whole pregnancy. I found attending the sessions really helpful as it was a chance to talk to other women in the same situation, or to experienced mothers all of whom had really heartwarming and encouraging stories to tell about motherhood. I found coming to yoga after surviving a really frantic busy and stressful week at work reminded me of the importance of looking after my body and not taking it, or my bump, for granted. The relaxation sessions at the end were the first time I had learnt to properly relax and switch off from the world around me and concentrate upon building some special time for myself and our baby which has also proved an invaluable skill now that Bryony has been born. I think I can deal with her crying and restlessness in a much calmer manner. I picked up lots of invaluable advice in our informal chats at the end too, everything from how to sooth a sobbing baby to how access a range of support services before and after the birth.
I also found that the yoga was really helpful during labour. I am sure it was the yoga classes and exercises I had done leading up to the birth that helped to ensure my baby was in the right position for an easier labour. I can't believe how effective the last session was in making Bryony engage. It did mean that when things started to happen I could face them with greater confidence. I could breathe my way effectively through the contractions and knew that each one was bringing me a step closer to meeting our baby. I am convinced attention given to breathing techniques meant increased lung capacity enabled me to get more out of the gas and air and was partially responsible for me not needing any further pain relief."

"I found that yoga helped me to stay more mobile during my pregnancy and to keep my pelvis and hips flexible, this was especially important for me as I suffered with SPD. The exercises were gentle yet effective.   My baby was well-positioned which I think must have contributed to my exceptionally fast labour (4 hrs 50minutes) and I believe that this was at least in part due to the yoga.   I spent a large part of my first stage at home, bouncing on my birthing ball and rolling my hips to keep myself focused and to manage the pain.   I also found the breathing techniques helpful and managed to breathe through the contractions until I was 8cm dilated and then managed the remainder of the delivery using gas and air which in combination with the breathing exercises was very effective."
